Other Ways to Donate

Strategic Giving

If you want to continue to make a difference to the lives of countless families in developing countries, please consider contributing to our Endowment Fund or leaving a legacy or planned gift to Canadian Humanitarian. The benefits for Canadian Humanitarian and the children we support when we receive these types of gifts are immense– there are also some great tax benefits for you.
You can do that by:

Making a donation to Canadian Humanitarian’s Endowment Fund by indicating your wish at the time of your donation
Including Canadian Humanitarian as a beneficiary in your will for a specific sum or a portion of your estate
Donating part of your assets, for example, stocks, bonds, or mutual funds - weare able to accept these types of donations that will save you money on capital gains taxes.
Naming Canadian Humanitarian as a beneficiary of your retirement funds, RRSP, RRIF or pension
Naming Canadian Humanitarian as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy.

Endownment Funds

Canadian Humanitarian has recently established the "Canadian Humanitarian Endowment Fund". This fund allows donors to have their donations last into the future. Donors will be contributing to the stability of Canadian Humanitarian as an organization and the sustainability of our projects which is needed in the long fight to decrease abject poverty. Please designate that your donation is for the Endowment Fund. Feel free to contact our office for further information.

Wills

When you write your will, you can make a bequest in the form of cash or property by including Canadian Humanitarian as a beneficiary. You may also make a residual bequest to the Foundation; a residual bequest is a gift of all or a fraction of whatever remains after all debts, taxes, expenses and other bequests are paid. Here is an example of what you can write:

I give to the Canadian Humanitarian Organization for International Relief, currently located at 50 Pioneer Cres NE Medicine Hat, Alberta Canada, T1C 1S4 , the sum of $_______ (or ________% of my estate) to be used in support of its general charitable purposes.

Assets

If you own stocks, bonds, or mutual funds shares that are traded on certain stock exchanges, you can donate them to Canadian Humanitarian. The impact on your taxes is substantial. Normally when transferring the ownership of these assets to a charity, the donor would have to pay tax on 50% of the capital gains realized from the assets appreciation in value. New tax laws in Canada have eliminated capital gains tax on assets you donate reducing the rate to 0%. Please consult our office and a financial advisor for more information on how to go about making this kind of donation.

Retirement Funds

You may also give a gift of RRSP or RRIF funds by naming your estate as the beneficiary and then providing an equivalent bequest to Canadian Humanitarian. There are a number of advantages to this giving strategy. Please consult our office and a lawyer to help you work out the details.

Life Insurance Policy

You can name Canadian Humanitarian as the owner and beneficiary of a new or existing life insurance policy. A gift of life insurance is separate from your estate and has no effect on its assets. Please consult our office and a financial advisor or lawyer for more information.
