Our Mission
Mission
Canadian Humanitarian's mission is to break the cycle of poverty by providing orphaned and vulnerable children and their families with access to healthcare, education, vocational training, and the basic neccessities of life such as nutrition and shelter.
Need
According to the World Health Organization (WHO):
- 1.3 billion people live on less than $1 a day
- One in three children are malnourished
- One in five children are not immunized
- Every three seconds a young child dies - in most cases from an infectious disease
As a result of war, poverty, disease, and death, many children are orphaned or abandoned. The cycle of poverty, disease, and premature death must be broken.
Action Plan
Canadian Humanitarian is dedicated to assisting disadvantaged children and their families break free from the cycle of poverty plaguing countries like Ethiopia and Haiti. We provide shelter, food and clothing for children in need; medical supplies and regular exams to children and their families; funds necessary for children to attend school; we support educational and vocational training centers; we conduct workshops in the communities and train the staff to continue these workshops; most importantly we offer hope to many who have been negatively affected by the realities of poverty. Our mandate is not to swoop in and provide temporary aid – instead we aim to provide disadvantaged individuals with the opportunities, training and knowledge to realize their potential and break free from the cycle of poverty. We wish for the staff and administrators at the projects we support to learn to sustain their organizations, operate them effectively and increase their capacity building skills to make the projects successful. We wish for the students at the schools and centers we support to develop a love for education and reading, leadership and communication skills and a commitment to improving their communities. We wish for single mothers, grandmothers and aunts to receive micro-enterprise training to develop effective and reliable ways to support their families and increase their self-confidence. We wish to do all of this and secure the funds necessary to offer this type of support and assistance – our commitment to our projects and the children and families that benefit from projects like Kid’s Hope Ethiopia is what drives Canadian Humanitarian to raise funds, support and awareness all across Canada.
